Glimmerdeep clings to a black-water harbour where the fog never fully lifts. For four hundred years the city has survived because of its soul-lanterns — hand-blown glass lamps strung from every eave and mast, each burning a pale, patient flame that the fog-spirits will not cross. The Lamplighters' Guild tends them, the Chapel of the Kept Flame blesses them, and every child grows up knowing one rule: never let your lantern go out.
Now they are vanishing. Seven lanterns in nine nights, lifted from their hooks without a sound, and each morning the fog lies a little thicker in the lower streets. The Watch is baffled, the Guild has declared a curfew and a new Lantern Tithe, and down on the Wickwater Docks people have started whispering about a masked shape the fishwives call the Moth.
You arrive at the Brine & Wick tavern on the night the eighth lantern goes dark. Find the thief, follow the light, and decide what Glimmerdeep is really willing to burn to stay safe.
